We may also use your information for research and statistical analysis with the aim of improving our services. The information we hold about you is confidential. We will only disclose it outside NextCellular:

  • you give us your consent,
  • it is needed by certain reputable third parties involved in running accounts and/or providing services for you (for example, credit reference agencies who do credit checks for us),
  • in order to obtain professional advice,
  • we or others need to investigate or prevent crime (e.g. to fraud prevention agencies),
  • the law permits or requires it, or any regulatory or governmental body requests or requires it, even without your consent, or,
  • there is a duty to the public to reveal the information.


We may monitor, record, store and use any telephone, email or other electronic communications with you for training purposes, so that we can check any instructions given to us and to improve the quality of our customer service.

We will monitor network traffic from time to time for the purposes of backup and problem solving and in order to ensure that you are not misusing any of the services provided to you.

To the extent that sensitive personal data is processed about you, we will employ appropriate security measures given the nature of that data. However, you recognise that your use of the Internet and our website is entirely at your own risk. We have tried to create a secure and reliable website for our users. However, we have no responsibility or liability for the security of personal information transmitted via the Internet.

We may need to provide some of your personal information to third parties that we use for the purposes of delivering specific services to you (e.g. customer support, or a shipping company if you have asked us to send something to you).

RICA – Comply with the new law and register your cell phone number today!

What is RICA?

RICA is the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act. The customer registration section of the RICA, as set out by the South African Government requires everyone who has an active cell phone number or purchases a new Prepaid Starter Pack, to register their SIM cards from 1 July 2009.

Where do you register?

Currently it is possible to register your SIM card in all NextCellular 's regional Walk-In Customer Care Centres. This process can take up to 24 hours. However, through our website we take care of this hassle for you.

Why must you register?

RICA registration is a legislative requirement from the South African Government.

All users of SIM cards are required to comply with this new law. This new legislation aims to help law enforcement agencies to track criminals using cell phones for illegal activities, thereby contributing to make South Africa safer for everyone.

What is required to register?

You are required to provide the following information when registering your SIM card:

  1. Cell phone number
  2. The SIM card to be registered
  3. Full names and surname
  4. ID number or passport number – you will need to show one of the following documents as proof of identity:
    • As a foreign visitor you will need to provide either a letter from your Hotel where you will be staying
    • A letter from the owner of the home you will be staying to confirm your residence whilst in South Africa.

Please note: Registration must be done in person to confirm your identity. This is done on collection of your Pre-Registered starter pack, by providing us a copy of your passport and your proof of stay in South Africa.

When is it your responsibility to be RICA compliant?

  • If you own a SIM card
  • If you are paying a cell phone contract for yourself
  • When a family member's cell phone bill is in your name
  • If you're a parent or guardian of minors using SIM cards
  • When you transfer a SIM card from another individual's name into your name (Contract and Prepaid)
  • When you port your cell phone number to another network.
